Monroe Street Bridge Rehabilitation

Spokane, Washington
Client: City of Spokane
Construction: Ted Aadland, F.E. Ward, Constructors

Rehabilitation of this 4-lane, 893-foot long, multiple concrete arch bridge called for the removal and reconstruction of the entire deck structure, spandrel arches, and spandrel columns of the three main arch spans down to the existing arch ribs. The Aadland team removed and reconstructed four main pavilions — complete with cast concrete replicas of the original bison skull art features.

After more than two and one half years of construction, the city of Spokane celebrated the reopening of the bridge and marked the beginning of the next 75 years of service to the city. The bridge is on the national register of historic places and the City of Spokane’s historic register.
